Workshop (Tues full day): Pollinators

$40.00

Date: Tuesday, April 7

Time: 8:00 AM - 5:00 PM (lunch not provided)

Size: Limited to 20 participants

Instructors: Lusha Tronstad, Bryan Tronstad, Katrina Cook, Michelle Weschler, Tresize Tronstad, Nina Crawford, Walker Bensch, and Amy Storey (WYNDD, UW)

Description: Full-day workshop to gain experience with the identification, life cycle, habitat needs, and online resources of pollinators. Attendants will learn to identify bees and butterflies by looking at specimens under magnification, including those of management concern in Wyoming. We will introduce a new pictorial key of the native bees of the Rocky Mountain region that we are developing at WYNDD for participants to use for identification. We will show our favorite online and print resources to help you continue to learn after the workshop. Additionally, participants will interact with WYNDD’s pollinator team and discuss topics such as how pollinators are affected by management actions, parasites, etc. We will discuss the life cycles and habitat needs of pollinators such as nesting, flowers and other resources. Finally, we will discuss how to collect and monitor pollinators using different methods (e.g., lethal vs. non-lethal) and insect collections as resources. Cost includes bee and butterfly field guides for WY that attendees can take home.

What to bring: Laptop and charger.

THIS IS A FULL-DAY WORKSHOP AND CAN, THEREFORE, NOT BE COMBINED WITH ANY OTHER WORKSHOPS
