Date: Tuesday, April 7
Time: 8:00 AM - 4:00 PM (lunch not provided)
Size: Limited to 16 participants
Instructors: Casey McFarland (Tracker Certification - CyberTracker North America)
Description: The CyberTracker Track and Sign Certification is a professional-level, internationally recognized training and assessment system developed with San master trackers in Southern Africa to cultivate practical wildlife tracking skills. During the one-day certification, participants independently examine and answer 25–30 questions on animal tracks and sign found in the field. The process is designed to engage the “origin of science” tracking tradition—learning through careful observation, inquiry, and direct interaction with the natural world—and each round of questions is followed by in-depth group discussions that illuminate wildlife behavior, ecology, and tracking methodology. No prior experience is required, and participants have the opportunity to earn Level 1 certification by accruing enough points across questions of varying difficulty. Don't concern yourself with scores or certification, though—what's important is that the experience is engaging, fun, and highly effective for rapidly advancing your tracking ability! Meet in the hotel lobby and plan to arrange transportation to the field site. Carpooling is encouraged!
What to bring: This is a field-based workshop! Bring a notebook, water, lunch/snacks, and clothing appropriate for a spring day outside.
THIS IS A FULL-DAY WORKSHOP AND CAN, THEREFORE, NOT BE COMBINED WITH ANY OTHER WORKSHOPS
